Big data is playing a growing and critical role in day-to-day business operations, helping companies compete more effectively and become more efficient. However, difficulties in capturing this data and delivering it to front-line business systems have slowed down what companies can do with the data at their fingertips. Apache Hadoop was born out of necessity as data from the Web exploded, and grew far beyond the ability of traditional systems to handle it.
Tervela, a provider of data movement solutions for data warehouses, big data environments and globally distributed applications, today announced that Tervela Turbo, a high-performance data movement engine, is now certified on Cloudera's Distribution Including Apache Hadoop Version 4 (CDH4). Cloudera is a provider of Apache Hadoop-based software and services and offers a powerful new data platform that enables enterprises and organizations to look at all their data and ask bigger questions for unprecedented insight.
Tervela Turbo helps Cloudera customers implement mission-critical Hadoop systems with reliable data capture, high-speed data loading into HDFS, disaster recovery for Hadoop and ETLT data warehousing. Tervela Turbo is a high-performance data movement engine that feeds mission-critical applications on the front-line of businesses with large-scale, streamed data. The product was built for real-time business intelligence and operational analytics.
Today, more than half of the Fortune 50 run open-source Apache Hadoop based on Cloudera. With tens of thousands of nodes in production, Cloudera has established itself as the category leader that is setting the standard for Apache Hadoop in the enterprise. CDH4 is a 100 percent open-source distribution that combines Apache Hadoop with other open-source applications within the Hadoop stack to deliver advanced, enterprise-grade features.
"As more organizations leverage big data and powerful analytics for mission critical operations, it is increasingly important that they be able to do so with high reliability. Building a cluster from the ground up to run Apache Hadoop can be challenging, however the Cloudera Certified Technology program helps eliminate the risk of deployment and managing Hadoop clusters," said Tim Stevens, vice president of Corporate and Business Development, Cloudera, in a statement. "We're committed to helping enterprises achieve the most from their big data initiatives, and we're pleased that Tervela has completed certification of Tervela Turbo on CDH4."
Hadoop can handle all types of data from disparate systems: structured, unstructured, log files, pictures, audio files, communications records, e-mail– just about anything you can think of, regardless of its native format. Even when different types of data have been stored in unrelated systems, you can dump it all into your Hadoop cluster with no prior need for a schema. In other words, you don’t need to know how you intend to query your data before you store it; Hadoop lets you decide later and over time can reveal questions you never even thought to ask.
"We are excited to bring our Wall Street-proven big-data-in-motion technology to the Hadoop community with the certification of Tervela Turbo," said Barry Thompson, CTO of Tervela. "The combined power of Tervela Turbo with CDH4 will help enterprise customers get the maximum value out of Hadoop, especially for real-time business intelligence and operational analytics."
